For the past 6 years we have raised over $55,000 dollars that has provided over 165,000 meals to local families in need through our donation to the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. The JM Group has supported and partnered with Mercer Street Friends in nourishing minds and bodies and empowering families and communities for more than a quarter of a century! As the Food Bank of Mercer County, Mercer Street Friends supplies food across Mercer County by working directly with schools and pantries to provide nutrition to communities especially hard hit by hunger. Their work feeding our community has never been more important, as so many in our region still find themselves facing food insecurity. In Mercer County, our own backyard, there are more than 37,000 people who are food insecure – nearly 10% of the population. In Trenton, 27% of Trenton residents – and 37% of Trenton children- are living below the poverty line.
Mercer Street Friends CEO, Bernie Flynn, notes, “Nutritious food is essential for every one of us. No senior, no parent and certainly no child should ever have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Unfortunately, the number of those who are food insecure continues to increase and we must redouble our efforts to nourish our neighbors.”
